Saving Tene

A small sharing can lead to a big change

Tene wants to thank you all

Less than a week ago, we shared Tene’s story, a 4-year-old girl who needs life-saving treatment in the USA. We reached out to you for help, and we managed to reach 4 million shekels in less than a day! Thank you on behalf of Tene and her family. You gave them the strength to continue their journey to recovery. Now all that remains is for us to pray for her healing. Thanks to you, Tene is starting her treatments in the USA and no additional donations are needed.

From now on, any donation given will be transferred to help other children in similar situations who need medications, treatments, and activities for their benefit.

In my worst nightmares, I never imagined I would have to write these words.

I am Gali Cohen and my husband is Aaron, parents to three incredible little children,
Living in Meimon Village in the Gaza envelope.
On Sukkot evening last year, my daughter Tene (3.5 years old) had blood in her urine. I was terrified and immediately went to the emergency room.

They conducted several tests, after which we received the terrible news – my Tene has a kidney tumor(Wilms) with metastases to the lungs.

I felt like the sky had fallen on me. I refused to believe it.

An urgent surgery was scheduled at Sheba Hospital to remove the tumor and the kidney, on Sunday immediately after Simchat Torah, on October 8th, 2023. Yes, you read that right. Simchat Torah. 10/7.

On the morning of Shabbat, when we were extremely tense ahead of the surgery and the start of treatments, endless alert sirens began, and we immediately ran with the children to the protected room.

A whole day locked up with the children while shots and masses of terrorists surrounded us. The tension, fear, and anxiety were immense, fear for our liveswith Tene’s urgent surgery on our minds.

I won’t forget asking our security coordinator if we could leave the village to go to the hospital for the surgery, and he said: “Gali, don’t know what to tell you, the army is not here, we are alone, this is your responsibility…”

We packed what we could in a flash and fled our beloved home.
We drove under fire with terrible scenes along the way. Not knowing that the next time we would return home would be much, much later.

The war of the people of Israel began, and so did our battle for Tene’s life.

Tene went into surgery. After nerve-wracking hours, alongside mothers of soldiers wounded in battle who were also waiting for their loved ones.

Tene came out and the surgery went smoothly, The kidney was removed along with the tumor. My brave little girl.

She keeps telling me: “Mom, do you see how strong I am?”

While we were evacuated to Tel Aviv, Tene underwent radiation to treat the lung metastases and began chemotherapy. For an entire year, Tene courageously battled tough chemotherapy treatments, including during Shabbats and holidays. These brought long and dangerous hospitalizations, immense stress and anxiety, and sleepless nights.

Tene’s long and beautiful hair, her trademark since birth, fell out completely.

But her heartwarming dimples and smile give me strength all the time.

After a difficult year of struggle, we were so excited that all tests were normal and we were moments away from ringing the bell.

And then… Tene’s stomach began to hurt…

I was not calm and immediately scheduled an ultrasound where they saw something was not right…

After a week of tests, we received the news for the second time –

the tumor returned. I was shattered.

Just as we were in shock, so were the doctors in Israel.

This immediately led us to consult top experts in the USA, who confirmed that it would be best for her to fly to get treatment from doctors with extensive experience
Once again, we stand before an exhausting journey, after a very difficult year. Again, far from home, but this time very far away.

My Tene gives me the strength to cross continents!

I will do everything so that the smile with the dimples will never fade away.

We are embarking on this journey. I believe that god will send us good messengers and great miracles. This is a time of prayers and intentions for all of Israel,
I need you in this journey, for Tene.

Any help is blessed, and I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for every mobilization, intention, and prayer, each in their way.

Believing with complete faith and clear knowledge that we will only receive good news, with God’s help, great miracles and salvations with mercy, for us and all of Israel.

Thank you to everyone, Gali
